Michael Haghighat and Ms. Deepa Gupta from Globalview Advisors attended the Orange County Chapter of Financial Executives International (OC-FEI) Dinner Meeting held at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach. The speaker for the evening was Dr. James L. Doti,—President Emeritus of Chapman University, Donald Bren Distinguished Chair of Business and Economics. His research interests include macroeconomics, financial markets, and regional economics, and his lively and informative presentation will provide the economic forecasts for U.S. and Orange County.
James Doti earned his B.S. degree in economics from the University of Illinois, Chicago, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago. He served as president of Chapman University from 1991 to August 2016 and holds the Donald Bren Distinguished Chair in Business and Economics.
Dr. Doti joined the Chapman faculty in 1974. In 1978, he founded the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research to encourage faculty and students to engage in economic and business research of high quality and to disseminate the results of this research to the business community. Under his leadership, the Anderson Center became nationally recognized, with its economic forecast and other research results cited in Business Week, The Christian Science Monitor, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine and USA Today.
Dr. Doti’s articles have appeared in academic journals as well as periodicals such as The Wall Street Journal and The Chronicle of Higher Education. He is the co-author of two econometrics texts and co-editor of a collection of readings in free enterprise that received the Templeton Honor Award for Scholarly Excellence.
Dr. Doti is a recipient of the Horatio Alger Award and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
He has completed more than 50 marathons and climbed five of the world’s famed Seven Summits. He is also an avid reader and writer.
