Michael Haghighat and Joseph Hirsch from Globalview Advisors attended the OCTANe Medical Technology Innovation Forum (MTIF), held this year at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa in Newport Beach.

MTIF is the largest and most important medtech industry conference in Southern California focusing on high-growth medtech innovation and investment. With over 850 attendees, ranging from entrepreneurs, industry executives, strategic partners, qualified investors, and academicians, MTIF brought the entire ecosystem together for this two-day content rich forum. Participants left the conference with actionable takeaways they can directly apply to their business to increase their efficiency, performance, scaleability, and growth.

In this panel, moderated by Sabing Lee, Partner at Knobbe Martens, and the founders of Sequent Medical, described how they started with an idea for treating aneurysms and built it into a successful start-up that was acquired by Terumo Medical for $280 million. Sequent founders Brian Cox and Bob Rosenbluth, Ph.D., and Former CEO Tom Wilder, shared their views and experiences on how they confronted start-up company challenges, such as manufacturing, raising financing, protecting intellectual property, and seeking regulatory approval. In conquering these challenges, they discussed how connections made in the local community helped to identify relevant resources.

OCTANe is building the Southern California of tomorrow. They drive innovation and growth by connecting people, resources and capital. Their members represent Orange County technology and medical technology entrepreneurs, investors, universities, small to mid-size businesses and strategic advisors.
