Raymond Rath, a Managing Director of Globalview, participated in a two-day meeting of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) Business Valuation Education Committee on September 19 and 20, 2018. The meeting included senior members of the business valuation profession and senior leadership of the ASA. Members of the committee are selected based on their depth of knowledge of business valuation theory, practice and current developments. Experience in thought leadership and educational efforts are also strong factors associated with participation.
ASA educational offerings consist of numerous courses covering business valuation theory, methodologies and assumptions. Valuations for litigation, financial reporting and tax related valuations were discussed. Specialized topics such as fairness opinions, solvency letters and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) valuations were discussed.
Topics covered during the two-day meeting included:
- Current developments in the valuation profession and course enhancements required to address;
- Future educational requirements; and
- Course modifications required as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.
